Adults of Longitarsus jacobaeae, the Ragwort Flea Beetle, attack the rosettes in the autumn and winter and cause extensive damage. The larvae intensify this attack by feeding on the primary root crown and the finer secondary roots of this poisonous weed. This very successful species is responsible for the dramatic decline in tansy infestations in the Pacific Northwest. Releases of 105 adults are available in October & November for $150.00
A biological control program initiated in Oregon reduced the incidence of tansy ragwort by 90% in 17 years, resulting in savings of over $5,000,000 per year!
